Do not feel ashamed if you don't understand what primer is, what contour is what highlight is, because believe me, it is so easy to get confused about all the new makeup techniques and products, it is ever evolving.
Below is a basic description of what products are used for a where they are used.
Primer - Used as a base product underneath your foundation to help it last longer. It is not a moisturiser or will it hydrate your skin (as much as it needs anyway) however, if you have a look at a simple light daily moisturiser, the primer will have very similar ingredients.
BB Cream - stands for "Blemish Balm" it is a lighter weight creamier foundation coverage that is used to even out the skin tone naturally.
Foundation - All over coverage that can range from light to heavy in a range of colours and finishes.
Concealer - Spot applier - Thicker, heavier makeup that is used to cover blemishes, redness or any skin irritations and it will even out the skin tone.
Highlighter - Lighter in colour, usually has a glow/shimmer/ illuminosity finish to highlight the highest points of the face - cheek bones, bridge of the nose, eye brow bones, cupids bow and the list goes on!
Blush - Red / Pink colouring and usually sits on the apples of the cheeks to give a 'just kissed' look.
Contour - Matte coloured bronzer to create shade on the face. Usually placed on the hollow parts of the cheek bones, halo of the head, side of nose, eye socket, jaw line.
Bronzer - illuminious golden colouring, and used any where on the face to create shade. usually more of a sun kissed finish to the skin.
